Noemi Ford, PsyD

Noemi Ford, PsyD Licensed Psychologist. MA in Clinical Psychology, 2004. PsyD. in Clinical Psychology, 2011 from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology, Chicago, IL

I am a Licensed Psychologist and Health Service Provider, providing mental health services since 2004. I have experience working with individuals, couples and families presenting with issues of depression, stress and anxiety, trauma, identity issues, relationship issues, GLBT concerns, immigration, cross-cultural and acculturation issues, grief and loss, parenting concerns, marital and premarital concerns, women’s issues, self-esteem concerns, personality disorders, mood regulation and self-injurious behaviors, end of life issues, and career and life discontentment concerns.

In my work, first and foremost I strive to create a safe, non-judgmental environment to facilitate authenticity and an open exploration of each client’s symptoms and self. Through the exploration of such symptoms and coping skills as well as through the use of the therapy relationship, I find that clients gain new, more authentic experiences and new knowledge about their true self. I have been trained in contemporary psychodynamic theory but I also integrate multicultural, feminist, existential, and mind-body focuses in my approach to develop a holistic and contextual view of my clients. I also rely on Cognitive Behavioral and Dialectical Behavior Therapy interventions to build on and strengthen my client’s skills to cope with their life stressors.

“Your vision will become clear only when you look into your heart. Who looks outside, dreams. Who looks inside, awakens.” C.G. Jung

Although a native of Hungary, I have been living in various parts of the USA, including Michigan, Chicago, Iowa, and California in the past 16 years, and now, I am happy to finally call Iowa City “home”.
